The first of two films to celebrate
Frank Sinatra 's 70th birthday this week. Fast-talking theatrical producer Miller has a show but no money. His problem is two-fold - to coax cash from a reluctant banker and to stall the eviction of his company from a smart hotel. Help arrives in the shape of 01' Blue Eyes himself in this energetic musical version of the Broadway farce Room Service.

Living Jazz
Jack Gold made this sympathetic film of the Bruce Turner Jump Band in 1961. The band is observed rehearsing at the Six Bells, Chelsea, and on the road playing a one-night stand in a new town's dance-hall.

Billie Holiday's tragic story, from her traumatic childhood ' in Baltimore to her premature death in a New i York hospital at the age of 44, is told in the words of her closest friends and colleagues - but mostly through the songs themselves. Arena has assembled an unprecedented number of her filmed performances.

New Orleans, 1906. Ella, crazy about the local jazz, is disappointed when her father decides to move to Chicago. Ten years on, still in love with the New Orleans sound, she meets up with trumpet player Johnnie, and together they live through the decades of evolving styles in music and dance.
Made in 1942, this atmospheric recreation of the early days of jazz concludes with an all-star jam session featuring such great names as Benny Goodman
