In East Africa more than a quarter of all children die before the age of 5. Not from the exotic tropical diseases, but from illnesses that we know how to prevent and cure. To remedy this tragic situation requires some pretty inventive medicine. "Horizon" reports from Ortum Mission Hospital in the remote highlands of northern Kenya, the habitat of the Pokot tribe, where a whole new approach to health care is getting off the ground.

3: The Shearing Season Since he set up as a freelance farm worker in Suffolk half a lifetime ago,
Richard Seabrook 's surest earnings have been from shearing sheep on contract. The gangs he has got together through the years have become part of the folklore of East Anglia. For eight weeks they work all the hours of daylight and beyond, visit a hundred farms, shear 20,000 sheep and make between them a total of around £9,000.
