Take a handful of sugar, two pinches of salt and dissolve in one pint of water. Any mother can do it - and if they did they would have made the cure for Africa's biggest killer: infant gastroenteritis.

In East Africa more than a quarter of all children die before the age of 5. Not from the exotic tropical diseases, but from illnesses that we know how to prevent and cure. To remedy this tragic situation requires some pretty inventive medicine. "Horizon" reports from Ortum Mission Hospital in the remote highlands of northern Kenya, the habitat of the Pokot tribe, where a whole new approach to health care is getting off the ground.
