The Arms Trade: Hurt with the Same Weapons?
The sale of arms and weapons around the world is big business. Each year the arms producers sell billions-of-pounds-worth of ships, planes and missiles to the arms consumers. Britain has sold weapons to countries as different as Kenya, China and Argentina. How do we judge who to sell to, when and why? Can we be sure of the diplomatic and military consequences? And how do we balance the benefit to us of these major exports against their effects on the economies of poorer countries? Steve Bradshaw talks to arms salesmen and politicians around the world.
