The place is Dartmoor, the creative environment of Brian Carter, artist, writer and poet.
Angela and Brian have in common a love of this austere landscape. Each, in their own way, has explored every corner of this wild, remote and beautiful countryside. Through his pictures, poetry and prose Brian recalls images of Dartmoor as it was in his boyhood. These were the days before the tourist when the moor was still a secret landscape - a dreamscape measured by the seasons, inhabited by characters like the badger, otter and the fox.

For his first major venture into choreography, Mikhail Baryshnikov chose one of the world's most popular ballets, The Nutcracker, to Tchaikovsky's enchanting score.
Baryshnikov says of the ballet: 'It is more than the spirit of Christmas. It has suspense, romance, fantasy - something for everyone. It also has, I think, the most glorious ballet music ever written.'

Raymond Baxter takes a nostalgic took back to the days when Campbell, Cobb and Segrave were national heroes, to the days when Britons held the world's land speed record almost unchallenged. Nonagenarian Sammy Davis, a former motor racer and journalist, recalls those heroes. He was at school with Sir Malcolm Campbell - and Campbell's daughter Jean Wales has more personal memories of her brother Donald.

Suburban housewife Victoria Layton feels that her routine life and staid marriage are making her boring and unattractive.
