John, Paul, George, Ringo... and Bert
From the Lyric Theatre, extracts from Willy Russell's hit musical which charts the rise and fall of The Beatles. The songs are sung by Barbara Dickson; The Fab Four are played by Bernard Hill, Trevor Eve, Philip Joseph and Antony Sher.

J.M.W. Turner
At the Royal Academy, the largest collection of Turner's work ever to be shown publicly opens today. Edwin Mullins traces the story of the paintings - from the legal wrangling over Turner's will, to the restoration of his canvases at the Tate.

9.50 First Performance
To coincide with their current season at Sadler's Wells, the artistic directors of London's two leading modern dance companies were each invited to create an original work for television.
Robert Cohan (The London Contemporary Dance Theatre) has used television techniques to explore the magic of the human body, taking as his theme these lines from William Blake: each herb and each tree, mountain, hill, earth and sea, cloud, meteor and star, are men seen afar.
John Chesworth (Ballet Rambert) has used noises of sporting events to counterpoint his visual exploration of the relationship between a man and a woman - the fantasy and the reality.
Also, rare film of the High Priestess of modern dance, Martha Graham, and both tonight's companies at work in their studios.
