The first in a four-week season of Fellini's films. "La Dolce Vita" so outraged Italian audiences on its first showings that they hurled abuse at the screen, and the film sparked off world-wide controversy about its portrayal of an aimless and amoral society enjoying 'the sweet life' in Italy's first taste of post-war prosperity.
Dispensing with the conventional plot, Fellini's film is like a journalistic exposé drawn from the notes of his leading character - a gossip writer played by Marcello Mastroianni.
