Bushman of the Kalahari
The story of Dr Hans-Joachim Heinz and the Bushmen of Bere Narrated by JIM DOUGLAS HENRY
' Originally I was an outsider and then I became more and more involved with the Bushmen till today they say, flatteringly, " You're almost half a Bushman." -
Dr Heinz made his first expedition into the Kalahari Desert 15 years ago, and was amazed and fascinated by the groups of little golden-brown hunters he found there. They still lived by digging roots from under the sand and hunting game with their poison arrows.
But Heinz decided that to survive they must adapt to modern ways - and set about leading the change himself. Now the Bushmen have cattle and goats, a borehole - and a school, run by New Zealander LIZ WILEY. Often she is the only white person for over 100 miles of desert. Today in Bere the new cattle drink at the borehole - and the little hunters still glide across the desert.
