Written by Richard Wade.
Starring Dudley Foster as Edward Hastings, Marjie Lawrence as Georgina Hastings and Arthur Askey as Mr. A. Askey

If you subscribed to Radio Times in 1932 you might have noticed at the end of the evening's listening the following terse announcement:
11.0-11.30
Television Transmission: By the Baird Process
(Vision, 261.3 m.; Sound, 398.9 m.)
To Humphrey Hastings it meant an opportunity to take part in a 'great' experiment - building his own television receiver in an old writing desk. The original television studio in which Arthur Askey gave his first television performance in 1932 has been re-created for this production: you will see him as he was in the studio and as he was seen by the Hastings family in their suburban house in Twickenham on 30-line television.
