Petroc Trelawny presents a concert recorded earlier this month at London's Barbican Hall. As a teenager, Petr Eben experienced the deathly landscape of Buchenwald concentration camp; but his music tonight bears witness to the triumph of hope over adversity. And Brahms's progressive first piano concerto triumphed as a masterwork only after ridicule had greeted its early performances. The evening ends with Dvorak's pastoral vision of Bohemia's meadows and forests.
