A portrait of Nigeria's most influential musician, the late Fela Kuti, countercultural hero and inventor of the Afro-beat style. DJs Max Reinhardt and Rita Ray travel to Lagos and talk to family members and fellow musicians. They visit the original Shrine nightclub, the house and commune that he named the Kalakuta Republic, and his birthplace in nearby Abeokuta.

Irish traditional music from the duo of Michael McGoldrick and John McSherry , Japanese electronica from Nobukazu Takemura , and Sefauchi's Farewell by Purcell performed on clavichord by Thurston Dart. With Verity Sharp.
