Mitridate, Re di Ponto
The tangled web of love affairs in this opera, composed by Mozart at the age of 14, is inspired by a play of Racine, but the war raging as its backdrop was a historical event. Mithridates VI of Pontus on the Black Sea was a rather nasty king, who fought the Roman Empire for 50 years until his defeat and suicide in 63 BC. This Royal Opera production, directed by Graham Vick is presented by Stephanie Hughes.

Doing the To-Do List
Get up, do tax, extend overdraft, give pills to cat, explore foreign rights, check diving
- charts, book honeymoon, pack knickers, have baby - anything and everything can go on the to-do list. This montage taps into people's sometimes obsessive need to impose order on the threatening chaos of their lives, including the trials of a nuclear-submarine commander remembering his medals, a poet sorting out the polystyrene under the sink, or a comedian just trying not to lose it. Producer Richard Bannerman Arthur Smith has got a little list: page 117
