1/4. Saxophonist and composer John Surman has created a style of jazz that is steeped in the English church and folk music he was brought up with. Now aged 60, he talks to John Fordham about growing up in Plymouth, working with Mike Westbrook , and his rise to prominence in the 1960s as one of the leaders of a new generation in British jazz.
