This season's Bohemian theme continues with the first Proms performance of Janacek's visionary cantata about a kingdom of the spirit governed by an eternal love, written on the eve of the First World War. It is framed by Mozart's short Italian-style opera-overture symphony and Mahler's darkly nocturnal symphony. Presented by Christopher Cook.

4/5. Vienna. In 1838 Liszt travelled to Vienna to give concerts in aid of the victims of a disastrous flood in Pest. They were a huge success, enabling him to donate 24,000 gulden to the flood relief fund. The concerts marked his return to the concert platform, and the acclaim Liszt received in Vienna assured his reputation as an unassailable virtuoso of the keyboard. Presented by Donald Macleod.
