Michael Berkeley 's guest this week is the writer and film producer Gillian Slovo , South African-born daughter of the political activist Joe Slovo and journalist Ruth First , who was murdered in 1982 for her involvement in the anti-apartheid movement. Gillian's latest book, The Ice Road, is set in Leningrad, also the setting of Shostakovich's Seventh
Symphony- one of her musical passions.

A 5th-century Sanskrit play attributed to King Sudraka, concerning the romance of Charudatta, a nobleman impoverished by his altruism, and Vasanta, a beautiful-but-bored courtesan looking to settle down.
