Jez Nelson continues his occasional series aboutjazz musicians who deserve greater recognition with a profile of Mike Osborne. The alto saxophonist was a influential figure on the British contemporary scene in the 1960s and 70s, but was forced to retire in the early 80s due to illness.

Verdi's thrilling opera tells the story of the Babylonian king who conquered Jerusalem in 586 BC, and of the Hebrews' dramatic journeyfrom oppression to freedom. The work became extremely popular in Milan at a time when it was occupied by Austria.
