Warmly praised by the press after its first performance in Milan in 1842. Verdi's thrilling opera tells the story of the Babylonian king who conquered Jerusalem in 586 BC, and of the Hebrews' dramatic journeyfrom oppression to freedom. The work became extremely popular in Milan at a time when it was occupied by Austria.
