Prokofiev's first Dostoyevsky-based opera is set in the fictitious spa town of Roulettenburg. The drama revolves around the gambler Alexei, in love with the daughter of a general. There is also a baroness, a marquis - and a wealthy aunt who confounds expectations by coming off her sick bed to gamble away her fortune. During the interval Rodney Milnes continues his series Opera Snaps - a sideways glance at each of this season's Met operas.

A concert given at London's Pizza Express last month. Led by Swedish pianist Esbjorn Svensson with Dan Burglund on bass and Magnus Ostrom on drums, EST were in town to promote their latest album Good Morning Susie Soho, which recently made it to the upper reaches of the Swedish pop chart.
Despite considerable commercial success the band are much appreciated by jazz aficionados - their previous album From Gagarin's Point of View was Jazz on 3's 1999 album of the year. Plus a feature marking the 25th anniversary of the Hat Hut record label. Presented by Jez Nelson.
