Since then great singers have been eager to try those clothes on, and in today's programme Donald Macleod listens to some of the great voices of the last 100 years, whose recordings have become classics of the catalogue. 9: The Complete Work. Konnie Huq introduces the final programme in the series, which culminates in a complete performance by the BBC Philharmonic of Benjamin Britten 's The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra. If you have been following the series you will be able to hearthe various sections of the orchestra and listen to the different ways Britten has treated melody, rhythm and orchestral colour.
Another chance to hear Joan Bakewell 's interview with Ivo Pogorelich , the Yugoslavian pianist who became famous when he was eliminated from the 1980 International Chopin Competition in Warsaw before the final round. Half the jury resigned in protest. (R)

By the 1960s, John Barbirolli was free to work where and how he wished. Lady
Barbirolli recalls the pleasure he obtained from conducting opera once again - recording Madama Butterlyand Otellofrom working in places as far afield as Houston and Berlin, and from helping to develop the talents of young artists like Jacqueline Du Pre. The conductor known as "Glorious John"-somethingofa workaholic who kept depression at bay by non-stop activity- died on 29 July 1970.
