Service of the Century. Choral Evensong is the longest-running outside broadcast in the history of broadcasting. Since the first wireless relay was heard from Westminster Abbey in 1926, Choral Evensong broadcasts have maintained their special place through the years of world war and through the turbulent years leading to the end of the century. Today's service is a composite of broadcasts from cathedrals and chapels recorded earlier this century, with material from the National Sound Archive of the British Library and the BBC's own archives.

8: Variations, Canons and Fugues. If you've got a tune in your head, what can you do with it to make a longer piece of music? Konnie Huq finds out from composer
Bill Connor , who explains how he took the Blue Petersignature tune and wrote some Blue Peter Variants for the BBC Philharmonic.
He also describes how Benjamin Britten used a tune by an earlier composer as the basis for The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, subtitled Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Purcell.

3: The Halle Years. John Barbirolli turned the Halle Orchestra from a good provincial band into an orchestra capable of greatness. A pioneer of the Mahler revival, Barbirolli also introduced his orchestra and audiences to the latest works by contemporaries like Vaughan Williams - and to outstanding artists like Kathleen Ferrier and Janet Baker.

Birth of the Blues. Kim Criswell, Wayne Marshall and the Blues Band trace the history of the blues through songs made famous by such legends as Bessie Smith , Billie Holiday and Duke Ellington - a concert given earlier this year at the Talk of the Town during the BOC Covent Garden Festival. With Kim Criswell (vocals), Wayne Marshall (piano), Paul Davies (drums), Chris Rodell (double bass/electric bass), Mark Crooks (tenor saxophone/clarinet) and Dave Prizeman (trumpet).

3: Tequila. Andrew Jefford visits the most primitive distillery he has ever seen to discover what varieties of flavours tequila maker Carols Camarena can conjure from the blue agave- a large succulent plant.
