Chris de Souza introduces the first of two Radio 3 Invitation Concerts of Spanish music recorded at the Royal Academy of Music in London. In this concert, given last October, Charivari Agreable perform colourful chamber music from the court of Philip II, including some of Diego Ortiz 's catchy recercadas, organ pieces by Antonio de Cabezon , music for vihuela by Luis de Milan, and arrangements of popular tunes by Hemando de Cabezon.

Tonight, a concert given by the Belgian ensemble Champs d'Action as they make their UK debut at the festival, bringing with them works by the late Karel Goeyvaerts - an enigmatic figure who helped to pioneer the development of postwar serial composition. Verity Sharp introduces his Piano Quartet and Litanie IV as well as music by one of this year's featured composers, George Crumb. His Quest for guitar and ensemble is his most recent score. Plus late-night improvisations for double bass and synthesisers from Terry Riley and Stefano Scodanibbio.
