The 30 or so years before the First World War are sometimes referred to as La Belle
Epoque, when the pursuit of pleasure was one of the main occupations of Parisians. But it was also a time of tremendous activity in the arts. Stravinsky and Ravel created some of their most sumptuous scores, Yvette Guilbert ruled the Moulin Rouge, and in the Bois de Boulogne the band played on.
