Billy Mayerl (1902-59) by Peter Dickinson. Although best known now for his syncopated piano pieces like Marigold and The Jazz Master, Mayerl also wrote orchestral music and scores for several successful West End musicals. In his time, he accompanied silent films, played with the Savoy
Havana Band and partnered Gwen Farrar on the halls.
He also pioneered music tuition by post with the Billy Mayerl School of Music.
