Ronald Atkins presents the second of five programmes on this American composer and keyboard player.
Hancock was a member of the Miles Davis Quintet for almost six years, but that did not prevent him making records under his own name, sometimes with other members of the Quintet, like Ron Carter and Tony Williams. He eventually left Davis in 1968 and formed his own sextet.
