Lyric tragedy in three acts by Sacehini (sung in French)
There are at least 40 operas based on Tasso's story of Armide, an eastern queen with supernatural powers.
Sacchini first wrote this opera in Italy as Armida, then adapted it to Rinaldo for English audiences, and then to Renaud (1783) when he moved to France where it became one of his most popular operas. A concert performance direct from the Logan Hall, London, presented by the Camden Festival in association with Radio 3.
