Conditions of Agreement by JOHN WHITING with and In trying to come to terms with the irrational violence and unreasoning fear rampant at the end of the 40s, John Whiting , in this relatively unknown play, influenced all the major post-war playwrights. Peter Bembo 's arrival acts as a catalyst for the Doon household, and a sense of menace grows as their hatred and fears find a victim.
