Three talks by Marghantta Laski , based on her 1974 Frederick Denison Maurice Memorial Lectures.
3: Trinaers, Aims and Targets Nietzsche saw the ordinary social conscience as the herd instinct in the individual. Miss Laski argues that ecstatic experiences create what can be called a higher conscience, one which leads to truth and altruism. She believes that to value both kinds of conscience is a richly challenging task.

Robert Pring-Mill , Fellow of St Catherine's College, Oxford, presents a selection of the poems Of ERNESTO CARDENAL , one of the most notable Latin-American socially committed poets in the generation following that of Neruda. Born in 1925 and ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1965, Cardenal now leads a small progressive commune on an island in Lake Nicaragua. Robert Pring-Mill's English translations of his poems are read by HUGH BURDEN , while the Spanish originals were recorded by the poet himself on a visit to this country.
This week Derek Jewell plays music from rock virtuoso CAR-LOS SANTANA'S latest album Lotus which was recorded live in Japan. He'll also be considering the awesome talents of PAUL SIMON and ART GARFUNKEL as displayed in their current albums Still Crazy. After All These Years and Breakaway.
