Ernesto Cardenal: Committed Poet

Robert Pring-Mill , Fellow of St Catherine's College, Oxford, presents a selection of the poems Of ERNESTO CARDENAL , one of the most notable Latin-American socially committed poets in the generation following that of Neruda. Born in 1925 and ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1965, Cardenal now leads a small progressive commune on an island in Lake Nicaragua. Robert Pring-Mill's English translations of his poems are read by HUGH BURDEN , while the Spanish originals were recorded by the poet himself on a visit to this country.
