Erich Gruenberg (violin) BBC Symphony Orchestra, leader Eli Goren, conducted by Sir Adrian Boult and David Atherton
Sir Lennox Berkeley says:
"This is the first of three Proms in which Sir Adrian Boult will conduct part of a concert, and it is an all-English programme in a way, thought the name Gerhard may be unfamiliar to some. Roberto Gerhard was born in Spain, but he settled in England in the 30s, and recent Prom seasons have helped to promote interest in his work. His music is distinguished by particularly brilliant and effective scoring".

A feature compiled and produced by JOHN THEOCHARIS (from the biography by ELIAS BREDSDORFF , and additional material by ERIK HAUGAARD) on the centenary of the death of Hans Christian Andersen with and 'You must realise that it was only a manner of speaking when I was referred to as "the children's writer, my aim being to be a writer for aU ages, and so children could not represent me. Naïveté was only part of the fairy-tale, humour on the other hand, was its salt, and my written language was based on the folk language, that was my Danishness.'
