David Wilde (Piano)
BBC Welsh Symphony Orchestra, led by Robert St John Wright, conductor Boris Brott

Sir Lennox Berkeley says:
'This concert brings together, though not in the same work, two of our most gifted young musicians. The composer William Mathias studied under me at the Royal Academy of Music, and though his work is basically traditional, it is of a strongly individual character. He tells me that his Laudi, though the title might suggest otherwise, is mainly a quiet, reflective piece. David Wilde, the soloist in the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No 1, is a very fine young pianist whose career I have followed with interest.'

Is Time Going Wrong?
Atomic clocks are now the source of the international standard for time; yet no two atomic clocks agree exactly. Recently there have been suggestions that atomic clocks should be corrected for latitude, but even when that is done, one clock-the clock at the Royal Greenwich Observatory - remains out of step. Could it be that our notion of time and space is not accurate enough? John Maddox discusses the implications of these discrepancies with experimenters and theorists.
