Added Tax: The tion by Britain iT is a prerequiof our member-p of the Euroean Economic Community. But why is it necessary for there to be a uniform system of indirect taxation in all member countries? Why was the complicated VAT system chosen? What happens to that proportion of the VAT yield which is earmarked for Community services? Is VAT inflationary, regressive and less flexible than Purchase Tax? Is the Government right to have chosen to levv it at a ninele rate?
