Riding the Storm 1956-1959
In 1955 Harold Macmillan was in turn Minister of Defence, Foreign Secretary and Chancellor of the Exchequer. In January 57, at what he calls ' a pretty rough time.' after Suez and the resignation of Sir Anthony Eden he became Prime Minister.
' What was called unflappabilily - if they only knew how one's inside was flapping, they wouldn'have said that.'

THE CARD
by Arnold Bennett
Abridged by Madge Hart
Read by Michael Aldridge
As Denry crossed the floor he said to himself 'She can eat me, she can'eat me.' People seemed to make a lane for him, divining his intention. In a second, so it appeared, he had reached the countess. 'Could I have this dance with you? ' he demanded, smiling and showing his teeth. He took the heavenly creature in his arms.
