Philippa Forrester meets American archaeologist Denis van Gerven, who has spent years studying the mummified bodies of 400 ancient Africans in the search for the truth. His conclusions include a clue as to why more women than men survived famines in the Dark Ages. Also, how young people with learning disabilities are gaining independence thanks to virtual reality.
