Legion, granted a royal charter in 1925, has represented all British ex-servicemen regardless of rank. Its annual Poppy Appeal, raising income for the benefit of members in need, is a focus of the Legion's activities, and reaches its climax at the Festival of Remembrance, when thousands of poppy petals fall from the roof of the Royal Albert Hall in silent memory of those who have lost their lives in combat over the years.
