The Bustards!
From beak to tip of Its displaying tall, the great bustard measures more than a metre.
But this secretive bird of the steppes and plains illustrates the effect man has had on the look and shape of the landscape.
In the series which explores conservation from the viewpoint of creatures under threat, there is rare film, shot on the Spanish steppes, of the shy bustard performing its extraordinary mating ritual and then settling down to nest. At the same time
EC bureaucrats meet in Brussels to make decisions that affect not only the shrinking habitat of the bustard, but also farmland across Europe, growing the food we buy-and waste.
So Just who are the bustards?
