In the last of these four
I programmes examining
Margaret Thatcher 's 11 years as Prime
Minister, the Conservative Party begins to turn against her leadership, but she shows no willingness to stand down.
She claims that she was beginning to have doubts about John Major. "He came up very quickly, she says, "and there were several years of experience missing." Although there was no clear successor, colleagues were becoming increasingly to view her as an electoral liability, and she speaks of what she regarded as their disloyalty.
"What hurts most of all is that this was treachery," she says of her Cabinet, "treachery with a smile on its face." " Naturally this charge Is denied by her former colleagues.
