World Cup Football:
San Marino v England
Since the 2-0 defeat In
Holland last month there has been heated discussion about the future of football in England. It's all been said before, of course - when England failed to qualify for the 1974 and 1978 World Cups.
Tonight there is live coverage of the game in which England could, given the right set of results, still qualify for the World Cup finals in the United States. To do so they must first win by seven clear goals in Bologna, the Italian city where San Marino play their important home games. At the same time Poland's experimental side have to pull off an unlikely victory over Holland. There will be reports of that match.
Omens for England?
David Platt scored a last minute
England winner in the same stadium during the 1990 World Cup finals and that Platt also scored four times when England beat San Marino 6-0 at
Wembley in February.
Plus news of the decisive qualifiers between Wales and Romania in Cardiff and Northern
Ireland and the Republic of Ireland in Belfast.
Introduced by Desmond Lynam , with Jimmy Hill and Terry Venables and commentary by John Motson , Barry Davies and Trevor Brooking. Producer Vivien Kent

Governments throughout the world are involved in an escalating battle against terrorists, a battle highlighted by Peter Taylor in five documentaries each examining an instance of terrorism over the past two decades.
The first programme tells the story of Silke Maier-Witt, for 15 years one of Europe's most wanted women. Her middle class family were devastated when they discovered her role in the brutal terrorist group, the Red Army Faction. Wanted for murder, she fled to East Germany where, with a new face and identity, she received protection from the Stasi secret police. Only when the Berlin wall came down was Maier-Witt arrested when she chose to betray her former terrorist comrades and tell her story.
Subsequent films explore the aftermath of the massacre at Munich of Israeli Olympic athletes by members of the Palestinian terrorist group Black September; the killing of alleged undercover agents in Northern Ireland; the Spanish government's response to the violence of the Basque separatist group Eta and the conflict between the United States and Islamic fundamentalist terrorists, when the United States was driven out of Lebanon by the raids of suicide bombers.
