Britain may be pulling out of Its recent economic troubles, but the "recession comedy for the 90s", created by the Birds of a Feather team of Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran, returns for a second series.

Martin and his wife and daughters are still living in Bernie's cramped council flat in Finsbury Park, where Martin grew up, rather than the five-bedroomed house in Hatch End he once owned.

Brother Albert still seems to be flourishing, though. But perhaps the prospect of a new settee mean better times ahead for the Sweet family.
