A uniformed police officer is shot dead during a routine enquiry in the centre of Leeds and police are faced with an apparently motiveless crime. The killer leaves few clues. Not since the "Ripper" murders have West Yorkshire Police been faced with such a massive inquiry. The investigation was to last two-and-a-half years and involve four police forces. This is their story. Producer Linda Cleeve
