King's College Choir
An intimate portrait of the King's College Choir, best known and loved for its festival of nine lessons and carols at
Christmas. Founded in 1451, by King Henry VI, the choir's main purpose is to provide a daily service of evensong and to perform the repertoire of great cathedral music.
This world famous choir is made up of undergraduate choral scholars from
Cambridge University and young choristers who attend King's College School.
Omnibus talks to the choristers about their fears and aspirations and watches them at rehearsal, at play and in performance.
It's a constantly changing world. At the end of the summer, some of the choristers leave at around the age when their voices break and lose the magic of the boy treble. In the autumn, there is a fresh intake of youngsters, and of course, the build up to the renowned carol service.
Also taking part in the programme are Stephen Cleobury , the Director of Music, the school's headmaster Gerald Peacocke and composer, Judith Weir. ProducerJill Evans
