Introduced by Tim Rice and Anna Ford from the stage of The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.
London's West End Theatres have seen nearly 100 productions this year: revivals, revues, new plays, opera, ballet and musicals, all of which qualify for consideration by the judging panel of The Society of West End Theatre. Consisting of theatre owners and producers, the Society elects a committee of 12 judges-all people who either work in the theatre or are members of the theatre-going public-to decide on the winners.
With four nominations in each of the 19 categories, the recipients really must represent the very best in the theatre today. Among the presenters of the various awards are:
Michael Crawford , Tim Curry Rex Harrison
Dame Alicia Markova Donald Sinden
Among the individual nominations are:
Barbara Dickson , Judi Dench Michael Gambon
Sir Michael Hordern Stephanie Lawrence Denis Lawson
Peter Ustinov , Michael Williams
