Six voyages with Clare Francis Narrated by Laurence Olivier 2: The World Encompassed
The first voyagers crossed the vast Pacific in small canoes searching for landfall and a home on distant islands. Centuries later came the galleons of the European explorers. For them the Pacific was a highway in the quest for gold and eastern spices. CLARE FRANCIS sails in the replica of the Golden Hinde to an island in the Coral Sea. It is the stuff on which dreams are made - a coral island, dusky, uninhibited maidens, tropical weather. This programme fulfils the promise of The Commanding Sea as a major television experience. ' Compulsive gambling' is now recognised as an addictive state. In 1964 a Methodist minister introduced Gamblers Anonymous to Britain. It has proved itself to be a lifeline for the compulsive gambler-but first the gambler must reach ' rock bottom', the recognition that his addiction is beyond his control. Only then can his fellow-addicts, and GA's ' spiritual recovery programme', help him rebuild his life. Everyman reports from within the confessional meetings of Gamblers Anonymous.

The Hunt for the Tenth Planet
Is there a new planet in the solar system? Many astronomers believe that there is a massive body beyond Neptune, the outermost of the main planets now known: it could be a planet, but it might also be a dark star or a black hole. The movements of the two Pioneer space-craft now on their way out of the solar system may provide valuable clues. Patrick Moore gives an up-to-date report.
