For the many people who are unable to take their holidays during the main summer season, the idea of a short break ' off-peak' is appealing. There are many variations on this off-peak theme, but none is more popular than the ' city break': a few days taken in a European capital.
For this week's programme. John Carter sampled what Madrid has to offer the holidaymaker - its museums and public buildings and. most important of all, its way of life.
In contrast, CLIFF MICHELMORE travelled down to Devon to look at some fixed caravan sites. Though the reference books will list the amenities various sites have to offer, it is hard, if not impossible, to know in advance exactly what they are like and what standards of comfort and style they achieve. How can you compare them? And how can you be sure of getting real value as far as quality is concerned?

A version by CHRISTOPHER HAMPTON adapted from the translation by MICHAEL GLENNY and HAROLD SHCKMAN with Michael Byrne
Lisa Harrow , Clive Revill Paul Rogers , Susan Traey
Russia 1920: the aftermath of the Revolution. Civil war rages fiercely. Racketeers feed off the chaos. Old Tsarist families try to come to terms with the new order.
Compassionate, satirical, explosive. Marya is the work of Isaac Babel, the brilliant Russian short story writer. A Jew from Odessa, Babel served with the Red cavalry during the revolutionary years. He was a victim of the Stalinist purges, and his savagely true play has yet to receive a performance in Russia.

The Power of a Well-loved English Hymn
An Everyman film
In a world that no longer speaks of death and resurrection, the great Victorian hymns are the warehouses of forbidden emotions: hunger for comfort, dread of dying, hope of eternity.
Change and decay in all around I see,
0 Thou who changest not, abide with me.
This film shares the moods of a hymn that can still take us to the heart of religious emotion: images of the real world bathed in the glow of ' Heaven's morning ': convictions that have not lost their power.
