Holiday

on BBC One London

Introduced by Cliff Michelmore
For the many people who are unable to take their holidays during the main summer season, the idea of a short break ' off-peak' is appealing. There are many variations on this off-peak theme, but none is more popular than the ' city break': a few days taken in a European capital.
For this week's programme. John Carter sampled what Madrid has to offer the holidaymaker - its museums and public buildings and. most important of all, its way of life.
In contrast, CLIFF MICHELMORE travelled down to Devon to look at some fixed caravan sites. Though the reference books will list the amenities various sites have to offer, it is hard, if not impossible, to know in advance exactly what they are like and what standards of comfort and style they achieve. How can you compare them? And how can you be sure of getting real value as far as quality is concerned?
