Billingham International Folklore Festival
Towards the end of August every year dancers and singers from all over the world gather in Billingham in the North East of England. In two theatres and in the Town Centre they present what has become widely regarded as one of the most colourful and exciting festivals of its kind.
This year there were groups from USSR, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Poland, Mexico, Yugoslavia, Spain, Greece and Italy. Michael Rodd introduces some of the spectacular moments from the 13th Billingham International Folklore Festival.

Yesterday, 45 top horse and rider combinations from ten countries contested the speed and endurance phase of this classic three-day event. This morning, competitors underwent a searching medical examination before this afternoon's final stage in the show jumping arena. LUCINDA PRIOR-PALMER, defending her individual title, and the Great Britain team seek to improve on the silver medal they won in West Germany two years ago.

Large numbers of Asian
women living in Britain sPeak little or no English.
While Asian children are being educated to belong to this society, their mothers often remain cut off from it.
Volunteer tutors in over 100 local schemes are helping such women to learn English and to cope more confidently with their surroundings. Many more volunteer tutors and helpers are now needed in view of the forthcoming television series, Parosi, which aims to encourage Asian women to learn
English. Judith Chalmers introduces extracts from Parosi and shows how volunteers can help.
