Browsing in a public library is an extraordinary way for Kirk to spend the last hours on a doomed planet with only the librarian left; but this is no ordinary library or, indeed, librarian.

The second of three programmes about the relationship between doctors and their patients.
At this moment there are 454,000 people in hospital beds in Britain.
And 27,572 doctors to look after them.
Hospitals work on the principle that medical staff can be replaced at any moment by other doctors with similar skills and experience. That is why housemen change their jobs frequently - and registrars come and go. And it is only one of the reasons why the relationship between a hospital patient and his doctor has its own special difficulties.
