BBC Outside broadcast cameras bring you the opening ceremony of the Ninth Commonwealth Games in the presence of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh

Two thousand competitors from more than 40 countries have gathered in Edinburgh to take part in this great sporting occasion. During the next 10 days they will compete for medals in the nine different sports that make up the Commonwealth Games programme. The Games begin with this afternoon's spectacular opening ceremony in the new Meadowbank Sports Centre.
