A new wildlife film series.

A film that won awards in London, Montreal and Moscow. It depicts a year in the life of a pair of kingfishers on the Hampshire Test. The filming of the birds under water and inside their nest burrow is unique.
The kingfisher is the most brightly-coloured bird in Britain. It is found in almost every county in our kingdom, and is common on suitable water; and yet it was almost unknown until this film brought home the fascinating facets of its private life.

Starring Dirk Bogarde
with Denholm Elliott, Akim Tamiroff, Gerard Oury

A British film with a difference. Dirk Bogarde as a lieutenant in the Special Boat Service leads a small raiding force to the island of Rhodes. Mission: destroy two enemy airfields. Set in World War II, this exciting production benefits from the touch of director Lewis Milestone who made the now legendary All Quiet on the Western Front back in 1930, and a series of World War II films. Dirk Bogarde has done his patriotic bit in movies like Ill Met by Moonlight, HMS Defiant and The Password is Courage.

On the centenary of Lenin's birth this film looks at Leningrad in terms of the creative artists who have made their home in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe: Chaliapin and Pavlova; Tchaikovsky, Glazunov, and Shostakovich; Gogol, Pushkin, and Mayakovsky. It also meets some of the city's young artists: a ballet dancer, a pianist, a poet, an acrobat troupe in the circus, a film actress, a sculptor.
Despite the tensions of different political systems, it is still possible to admire the constant beauty of Leningrad and the continuing tradition of her artists.
Poem of Mayakovsky read by Ian McKellen.
Narrator: Denis Pitts.
