The Sunday Film: They Who Dare

on BBC One London

Starring Dirk Bogarde
with Denholm Elliott, Akim Tamiroff, Gerard Oury

A British film with a difference. Dirk Bogarde as a lieutenant in the Special Boat Service leads a small raiding force to the island of Rhodes. Mission: destroy two enemy airfields. Set in World War II, this exciting production benefits from the touch of director Lewis Milestone who made the now legendary All Quiet on the Western Front back in 1930, and a series of World War II films. Dirk Bogarde has done his patriotic bit in movies like Ill Met by Moonlight, HMS Defiant and The Password is Courage.
(Dirk Bogarde in Rome: Line-Up, BBC2 at 11.20 pm)
