The Little White Horse won the Carnegie Medal for its outstanding contribution to children's literature. The story starts in 1842 when Maria, a girl from London, is travelling to Devonshire to live with her uncle in the mysterious manor house Moonacre. They say people who have lived there can never live happily anywhere else-but that is one of the things Maria has yet to discover.
