Metallurgists recently celebr&ted the 150th anniversary of Wollaston's discovery of padladium. In this talk Dr. Pfeil recalls the unique way in which Wollaston announced his discovery and describes .the importance of palladium and the other piatinum metals to present-day civilisation.
